Interview with Joanna Yanez, Arvigo Abdominal Massage Therapist & Founder of Rebirth Massage

Continuing our series of interviews with stellar San Diego providers, this week I met with Joanna Yanez, certified massage therapist of over 13 years, herbalist, and birth doula.

These interviews are intended to give you a brief dive into what these providers offer, how they can impact your core or pelvic floor health and recovery from childbirth, and how these services might complement and enhance your treatment in PT to help you achieve your goals.

Watch the interview here or on my Facebook Page

As pelvic PTs we help clients reduce pain and immobility during pregnancy through a variety of techniques including massage, joint mobilization, neuromuscular retraining, stretching and strengthening. I often find there is so much to do it is not possible to spend as much time as I’d like on body work in a 1-hour session. I frequently refer out to massage therapists to enhance the relief and recovery of my clients, but not all massage therapists are equal! Like physios, massage therapists can choose to specialize in a variety of areas, and a quality prenatal massage will come from a therapist who has committed their career to the expansion of their practice in the realm of pregnancy and postpartum healing.

As such, Joanna and her team’s practice goes far beyond your typical “prenatal massage”. Joanna is an abdominal therapist certified in the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy™, Chi Nei Tsang, and Hara Abdominal Therapy. She also has extensive training in pre-conception, pregnancy, and postpartum support. In this interview, we dicuss:

  1. Rebirth’s signature “Labor Prep” treatment, and how it can promote the natural onset of labor as well as a smoother labor
  2. Postpartum Abdominal or Womb massage, and benefits to digestion, uterine healing, and diastasis recti
  3. How the standard variety of “prenatal massage” is different from a truly specialized prenatal massage
  4. a few bonus points… 😉

Enjoy the full interview Here!
